Ravissant India's finest luxury and home décor brand reviews

Gurgaon, 21 February 2024: Mapin is delighted to announce the publication of Ravissant: A World of Ultimate Elegance by Mina and Ravi Chawla, India’s leading entrepreneur and founder of Ravissant.

With stunning photographs from their family albums and anecdotes, the book masterfully traces the ambitious story of two young entrepreneurs, Ravi and Mina Chawla, who set out to form a first-of-its-kind luxury lifestyle brand—Ravissant— in 1980s India. Ravissant, which means ‘delightful’, ‘ravishing’, and ‘enchanting’ in French, finds its roots in Indian cultural heritage and European standards of luxury, and continues to successfully rise to prominence.

High on memory and nostalgia, the book also features a foreword by Kapil Sibal, Senior Advocate and Member of Parliament, who writes: ‘Watching the success story of Ravissant unfold over the past decades has been a source of great pleasure and pride in the potential of India’s community. The Chawlas’ stellar achievements are an inspiration for Indian entrepreneurs especially considering that they began long before India had established itself as a global economic power to be reckoned with, e.g. in the IT sector.’

Reflecting on the telling of the story, Mina and Ravi Chawla say: ‘Through this book, we have endeavoured to document our journey from the turmoil of partition to crafting a brand that will enthrall discerning connoisseurs of luxury worldwide. We hope that the readers will find it captivating and enjoy uncovering this fascinating tale.’

Ravissant THE BOOK

Art, culture and the finer things in life were integral components of the highly sophisticated societies that existed in ancient and medieval India. Throughout history, South Asia has introduced many different luxury materials and technologies to the world, including fine textiles, jewellery and other objects crafted in precious metals, often with rare gemstones, as well as works in stone and wood. These centuries-old works of art and handicrafts reveal a breathtaking level of skill and refinement. India has been the birthplace of distinctive traditional designs, and it has also absorbed influences from Persia, Europe and East Asia.

In the decades following Independence, the Indian economy has followed a strong growth trajectory, gathering pace considerably in the 1990s with the country opening up to the globalised world.

While the world’s best-known luxury brands were developed over generations in the wealthy industrialised nations of the Global North, modern India’s domestic luxury market has been rebuilt and progressed under different circumstances and at a different pace. This is the backdrop for the success story of Ravissant. Two young entrepreneurs, Mina and Ravi Chawla, developed a deep and keen understanding of India’s rich heritage and European standards of luxury, and created Ravissant—a brand that uncompromisingly fulfils the wishes of the most discerning international connoisseurs.

Beginning with the goal to showcase the best of India for the world, over the course of five decades of outstanding entrepreneurship, Mina and Ravi have also brought the best of the world’s design aesthetics and practices to India. Ravissant, which means ‘delightful’, ‘ravishing’, ‘enchanting’ in French, takes us on a journey to the heart of luxury.
