PM hails over one crore households registering for PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana

The PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is a groundbreaking initiative by the Indian government aimed at providing free electricity to households through solar power installations. Launched recently, this scheme has already witnessed an overwhelming response, with over one crore households registering within a month of its inception.

Key Features

  1. Free Electricity for Households: Under this scheme, eligible households receive solar panels installed on their rooftops, enabling them to generate their electricity. This promises substantial reductions in electricity expenses, providing much-needed relief to families across the nation.
  2. Reduced Carbon Emissions: By promoting the use of renewable energy sources like solar power, the PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana contributes to a greener environment. Reduced reliance on conventional electricity grids translates to fewer greenhouse gas emissions, making our planet healthier.
  3. Increased Use of Renewable Energy: The scheme encourages the adoption of solar energy, thereby diversifying our energy mix. As more households embrace solar power, India moves closer to achieving its renewable energy targets.

Registration Process

  1. Online Registration: Interested households can register on the official National Portal for Rooftop Solar1. The process involves selecting the state, electricity distribution company (DISCOM), and providing essential details such as the electricity consumer number, mobile number, and email address.
  2. Vendor Registration: Vendors willing to execute solar projects through the National Portal can get registered with their respective DISCOMs. They need to submit an application along with a declaration and deposit a performance bank guarantee (PBG) of Rs. 2,50,000/- valid for at least five years. Once registered, vendors can enter product rates and contact details, visible to consumers applying for rooftop solar installations.

Benefits

  1. Financial Savings: Participating households can save up to fifteen to eighteen thousand rupees annually on electricity bills. The scheme not only provides free solar electricity but also allows surplus energy to be sold back to DISCOMs.
  2. Charging Electric Vehicles: Solar panels can also power electric vehicles, contributing to India’s clean mobility goals.
  3. Entrepreneurship Opportunities: The scheme opens up entrepreneurship opportunities for vendors involved in the supply and installation of solar panels.

Conclusion

The PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is not just about free electricity; it’s about empowering households, reducing costs, and fostering a sustainable lifestyle. As more families embrace solar energy, we move towards a brighter, cleaner future for India.
