Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Launches EdCIL Vidyanjali Scholarship Programme

In a significant move towards educational empowerment, Union Minister of Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, inaugurated the EdCIL Vidyanjali Scholarship Programme on February 6, 2024, in New Delhi. The launch event witnessed the presence of key dignitaries, including Shri K. Sanjay Murthy, Secretary, Higher Education, Ministry of Education, and Shri Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy, along with Dr. Chandrashekhar, Executive Director of EdCIL.

Shri Pradhan highlighted the Vidyanjali Scholarship Program’s alignment with the National Education Policy 2020, emphasizing a holistic approach to empower students, especially those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. He applauded the efforts of students from Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVS), mentioning that around 14,000 students, including those from marginalized families, have secured admissions to prestigious institutes like IITs and NITs without external coaching. The Minister announced that 70 students are set to receive scholarships totaling Rs. 5 crore.

Acknowledging the collective responsibility of nation-building, Shri Pradhan commended corporate entities for actively supporting academically gifted students lacking financial means. He expressed hope that such philanthropic gestures would inspire more corporates to contribute to the educational upliftment of deserving students.

Shri K. Sanjay Murthy highlighted the initiative’s origin in the implementation of NEP 2020, channeling philanthropy towards education. He praised JNV students for excelling in premier institutes and urged more sponsors to step forward in supporting students’ aspirations.

Shri Sanjay Kumar emphasized the consistent academic success of Navodaya Vidyalaya students, with nearly 85% coming from economically weaker rural families. He praised the leadership of the Union Education Minister and announced the organization of Summer Camps to inspire students in skilling activities.

The event witnessed the Minister interacting with JNV students and CSR sponsors, along with the launch of the innovative Vidyanjali Fintech Platform. Significant MoUs were exchanged between CSR sponsors, including Fiat India, HDFC Bank Limited, ClearMedi Healthcare, Bharat Forge, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, illustrating the collaborative efforts of the Government and the private sector towards nation-building.

The EdCIL Vidyanjali Scholarship Programme, aligned with NEP 2020, aims to revolutionize education opportunities and provide financial support to meritorious NVS students. The platform encourages private sector participation through CSR initiatives, fostering collaboration for a more educated and inclusive India. The Minister awarded scholarship letters to six deserving NVS students, marking a significant step towards educational inclusivity and socio-economic upliftment in the country.
