In a pivotal moment ahead of the commencement of the Interim Budget session of Parliament on January 31, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the media, highlighting the significance of ‘Nari Shakti‘ and acknowledging the crucial roles played by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and President Droupadi Murmu.

The Budget Session, a crucial period in India’s political calendar, opened with President Droupadi Murmu addressing a joint sitting of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha at 11 am. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his address, celebrated the spirit of “Nari Shakti,” terming it a festival and emphasizing the impactful decisions made in the recently concluded session in the new Parliament building.

PM Narendra Modi praised the Parliament’s decision to enact the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam,‘ honoring the strength and resilience of women. Reflecting on the Republic Day celebrations, he noted, “On 26th Jan, we saw how the country experienced the capability of Nari Shakti, its valour, the strength of its resolve.” The Prime Minister set a positive tone for the budget session, describing it as a celebration of the empowering force of women, particularly recognizing President Droupadi Murmu’s guidance and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s role in presenting the interim budget.

Expressing confidence in the upcoming Lok Sabha Polls, PM Modi hinted at a possible hattrick win for the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). He stated, “We are going to follow the tradition of presenting a full budget after the new government is formed.” This anticipation builds a backdrop of continuity and stability in governance, aligning with the government’s vision for sustained economic growth.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is scheduled to present the interim budget on February 1, Thursday, marking a significant moment in the session. The last session before the Lok Sabha polls, expected in April-May, will span eight sittings over ten days. According to the list of business outlined by Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, both Houses will initiate proceedings half an hour after the President’s address.

Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Pralhad Joshi, shared insights into the session, stating that it may conclude on February 9. Emphasizing the session’s primary focus on Financial Business related to the Interim Union Budget for the year 2024-25, he highlighted that discussions on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address would also be prominent. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on ‘Nari Shakti‘ not only aligns with the broader social narrative but also underscores the government’s commitment to empowering women and recognizing their significant contributions. The celebration of women’s strength and capabilities sets a positive tone for the upcoming budget session, hinting at a holistic and inclusive approach to governance. As the nation awaits the interim budget presentation by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the government’s proactive stance and commitment to financial prudence are expected to shine through, providing insights into the economic trajectory for the year ahead.
